Hatha Yoga
Many people in Australia and New Zealand equate yoga with physical
exercise and today there are many varieties of yoga taught, e.g.
Hatha, Iyengar, Astanga, Satyananda
to name just a few.
The word yoga means union or oneness with your inner being, your
own essential nature. To achieve physical, mental, emotional and
spiritual harmony we practiceHatha Yoga, including asanas (physical
postures), pranayama (breathing), relaxation and meditation .
The goal of Hatha Yoga is the uniting of ha and tha, which corresponds
to the right and left nostrils and the two nadis or subtle nerve
channels called Ida and Pingala. When
these two flows of prana (vital energy) are perfectly balanced the
prana will begin to flow in the most important nadi in the psychic
body - the sushumna.
Recognition of the laws of duality is the basis for the Hatha
Yoga practices. Examples to bring us closer to this idea are:
Ha - sun, positive, inhalation, fire, masculine,
warmth.
Tha - moon, negative, exhalation, water, feminine,
cold.
Harmony is found in the balance of the two oppostives.
Yoga
Asanas
Yoga asanas (postures) help us attain steadiness of body and mind
and a feeling of health, increasing our flexibility and strength.
There is also a beneficial action upon the nerves, glands and vital
organs. The emphasis on the breath brings about a sense of calm
and relaxation thereby reducing stress. Yoga can be practised with
conscious awareness by people of all ages within their own capabilities.

Elizabeth also has pregnant ladies in her classes and adapts the posture for them accordingly.
